Cockroach
Orion Pest can eliminate roaches in your home
What is a Cockroach?
Cockroaches are incredibly common pests that infest houses and other structures and like to live where there is food, warmth and moisture. There are multiple different species of cockroach that can be found in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area, including Oriental Cockroaches, Surinam Roaches (live in dirt and can be introduced via potted plants), and German Roaches (most common household pest in the US) and American Cockroaches. They are mainly active at night and are often found in homes and restaurants. Hence, they are even more undesirable than most other household pests.
How do Cockroaches Differ?
Adult German cockroaches are typically 1/2 to 5/8 inch long and are tan to light brown (in color. Although they have fully developed wings, they do not fly. The German cockroach is best identified by its small size and two dark parallel lines running from the back of the head to the wings. It is usually found in kitchens (near dishwashers, stoves, and sinks) and in bathrooms of homes.
Surinam roaches, typically reach lengths of 1/2 inch to 1 inch, and have dark brown or black heads and bodies, while their wings are brown. Surinam roaches are found primarily in South Florida, Texas, Louisiana, and in humid tropical climates. They are burrowing insects that are capable of destroying various plants. Surinam cockroaches are often unknowingly brought into homes, shopping malls, and restaurants in potted plants.
American cockroaches are one of the largest cockroaches that invade homes and adult American cockroaches are reddish brown or mahogany colored. Sometimes called palmetto bugs or water bugs, American Cockroaches are found throughout the southern United States. Both male and female American cockroaches develop wings when the roaches become adults and they can fly.
Why do I have them?
German cockroach infestations most often begin when someone unknowingly brings an infested item into a home or building. Poor sanitation, such as leaving out food or dirty dishes, can encourage an infestation since this type of clutter provides a good food source for the roaches. A cockroach problem can grow quickly because they can produce several generations in one year.
Why should I be concerned with Cockroaches?
German cockroaches can cause major infestations and are quite unsanitary. They are a major source of food contamination, leading to food poisoning, and have also been found to cause allergies in humans.
How does Orion Pest get rid of Cockroaches?
To effectively deal with a roach infestation at Orion Pest, we combine the appropriate application of chemicals with increased sanitation practice to kill existing roaches and remove food sources that encourage infestations.
What service options are available?
As part of our service to control cockroaches, a Orion Pest technician will remove live cockroaches. Then we will apply baits and Insect Growth Regulators in areas prone to roach activity and where roach activity has been observed. The combination of these methods will reduce the current population and interfere with the ability of cockroaches to develop and reproduce. Cockroaches can be treated as a one-time service, or as part of a home maintenance plan.
Can I control cockroaches myself?
While it is highly unlikely that you would be able to completely eliminate a roach problem only by improving sanitation, it is an important factor in dealing with any cockroach problem. You can make your home far less inviting to cockroaches by keeping your home free of food debris, keeping trashcans and the area around them clean, keeping floors and counters clean, and not storing paper bags and cardboard. However, without specific knowledge about cockroaches and their biology, it is very unlikely that you can effectively treat the problem yourself.
How soon can you get here?
At Orion Pest Solutions, our goal is to provide fast, convenient service, with the peace of mind that you are in good hands. We understand that pest problems can be stressful and overwhelming, so we strive to have one of our representatives meet with you the same day or very next day.
Is the treatment environmentally friendly?
There are many eco-friendly options available for cockroach control. In addition, all products used by Orion Pest Solutions are EPA registered for pest control use. Our highly trained pest control professionals will follow all appropriate label requirements in an effort to keep pets and humans safe.
How can I prevent German Cockroaches in the future?
The single most important thing you can do to prevent a cockroach infestation is keeping your home as sanitary as possible. This means avoiding clutter (especially paper bags and cardboard), making sure that no food is left out, and keeping floors and counters clean.
Ticks
Eliminate and Prevent Ticks
What is a Tick?
Ticks are parasites that will attach to a host (animal or human) for days at a time to feed on their blood. There are several types of tick that can be found in the North Eastern United States. There are some variations between species and between developmental stages, but in general, ticks have 8 legs and can grow as large as 1/2 of an inch. While not all ticks feed on blood as adults, it is necessary for them to do so in order to reach the adult stage of their life cycle. They are most commonly found in forests and other areas of where the land is not maintained or manicured (though certain ticks can and will find their way into well cared for lawns). Almost all ticks in the New Jersey area are capable of spreading disease.
There are a number of ticks that commonly found in New Jersey and Bucks County Pennsylvania which include:
Deer Tick:
Deer Ticks are the primary tick responsible for the transmission of Lyme disease. These ticks do not travel far from their questing areas and are usually encountered during recreational activities in the woods of in meadows.
American Dog Tick:
American Dog Ticks are the most frequently encountered tick and are the most likely tick to be found on both pets and humans. These ticks are very active and will travel from their questioning locations into manicured areas. These ticks will readily use humans as a host and are capable of transmitting Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
Brown Dog Tick:
Brown Dog Ticks are very specific to dogs and are rarely found on humans; although, this tick is a domestic species and is the only tick which will leave its host and infest the home. They are primarily found in cracks and crevices of the home. It is believed that the tick is usually brought into homes by dogs which have picked them up while visiting infested structures such as veterinarians, groomers, kennels, etc.
Lone Star Tick:
Lone Star Ticks are very aggressive ticks and will actively travel from their questing locations into manicured areas. Lone Star Ticks are commonly found on a wide variety of animals, including humans. These ticks are capable of transmitting Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Tularemia.
Why do I have them?
You are most likely to encounter ticks when walking in an area that is naturally infested with ticks, like a forest or tall grass. While some ticks will venture out into even the best kept lawns, your chances of seeing ticks are increased if your property borders wooded areas, or if you walk in such areas frequently.
Why are we smarter?
Our knowledge of Tick biology allows us to create cutting-edge treatments to successfully reduce residential Tick problems. The Cooper methodology is based on scientific research, which is what sets us apart from the competition. While many companies focus on trying to treat ticks by providing large-scale turf applications, Cooper knows that Ticks live and breed in the un-manicured areas around your home!
When a lawn and turf company treats for ticks around your home, they will typically treat only the grass by applying pesticides to your manicured lawn. While this may occasionally eliminate an occasional tick that may have migrated, Cooper’s methodology is much more effective and uses much less pesticide.
How is Cooper’s methodology proven to reduce Ticks?
At Cooper, we believe it is unnecessary to treat the entire lawn since ticks don’t live in manicured lawns! Our methodology prevents ticks from entering into your yard by providing targeted applications in areas where ticks live and breed. Our method is to treat the un-manicured areas around your home - mulch, groundcover, leaf litter, and any other overgrown area. We will also treat the perimeter of your yard and 5 feet into the turf which will prevent Ticks from migrating into your yard. Not only is our treatment more effective, but it is also more environmentally conscious since our treatment uses less pesticide.
In the event that you find another pest control company offering Tick prevention services, we recommend that you ask them “how are you treating for Ticks?”, “will you treat the surrounding areas around my lawn or only the turf?", and “is it necessary to apply pesticides to my entire lawn?” At Cooper Pest Solutions, we guarantee Ticks will be 100% prevented and that you will be “wowed” by our service.
Smarter = Tick Prevention
Why should I be concerned with Ticks?
Ticks are known to transmit diseases, including Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and Tularemia. All of these diseases are quite serious, but can often be cleared up with timely medical attention. Even without the risk of disease, most ticks that are seen by humans are feeding on the blood of a human or a pet, making them very unwelcome.
How do I get rid of Ticks?
Since ticks will naturally occur in certain areas, there is not much that you can do to get rid of them on your own. However, they can be controlled with targeted applications of pesticides. One of Cooper's trained technicians can analyze your property and propose treatment that will best suit your needs.
What service options are available?
Cooper offers a Tick Prevention Service that reduces the likelihood of tick entry into the yard by specifically treating the areas throughout the property where ticks are likely to harbor and breed. A skilled technician will assess your needs based on your property and the surrounding environment and target treatment in the areas where ticks are already present. This treatment will ideally begin in April, but can be effective as long as it begins before the fall. The service includes four treatments (the first two in the first two months and the following two every other month) with a chemical that has been proven to be highly effective in the control of ticks.

Mice
The Rodent Control Experts
What is a Mouse?
A mouse is a small nocturnal rodent that is very well suited to living in houses and other human made structures. Mice are often not seen by homeowners because they only come out at night, and they are usually identified through the damage they cause and the noises they make while out of sight. Their natural diet consists of seeds and grains, but they will eat many different things. Mice tend to nibble on things, making frequent trips to food sources within 25 feet of their nests.
How can I identify a mouse problem?
Since mice are the most active at night, they often go unseen. However, there are several ways that people typically become aware that mice are present.
1) Evidence of mouse droppings left in areas that mice have visited. The mouse droppings resemble dark grains of rice.
2) Damage to food packages is observed. You may notice that there are holes gnawed through packages of food and that the food has been consumed.
3) You may observe mice inside the structure. The two most common species to enter man madestructures include the House Mouse Mus musculus, and the White Footed Mouse, Perimiscousspecies. The House Mouse and the White Footed Mouse are similar in appearance but can be easily distinguished by the color of the hair on the body. The House Mouse is light brown to light gray and uniform in color. The White Footed Mouse is light brown and is white on the underside of the tail, belly, and feet.
Why do I have them?
Mice normally find their way indoors searching for food and in order to keep warm through the winter. Since mice have collapsible bodies, they can get into homes through cracks or holes smaller than a dime.
Why should I be concerned with Mice?
Mice, though small, can cause a lot of damage. They tend to become very costly pests because they cause a lot of food contamination because of their droppings and damage many household items with droppings and urine and by gnawing on them. This can create an especially significant problem when they chew on electrical wires, which can cause appliances to fail and could even cause a fire. Mice also transmit diseases, including the one responsible for food poisoning.
How does Orion Pest get rid of Mice?
Mice can be difficult to control once they have set up a nest in a home. However, they can be controlled with appropriate applications of baits or traps. The traps need to be placed in areas where there is already mouse activity, preferably as near to the center of activity as possible since mice will not venture far from their nests. The traps or baits should be placed along the walls since that is where mice are most likely to travel.

Wasps
Prevent and Remove Wasps
What is a Wasp?
Paper Wasps are one of the first insects to become active in the early spring (April/May) as the temperatures begin to warm. Wasps will also remain active throughout the entire summer as they continue to build their nests virtually anywhere; inside window frames, on overhangs, in attic vents, under outdoor furniture, or on play equipment. They are moderately aggressive and will readily sting if they feel threatened or if you accidentally get too close to the nest.
Why do I have them?
During the spring and summer months wasps may be very active around structures for several reasons:
They are collecting wood from wooden play sets, deck railings, fences or bark of trees. This wood is then used to make paper for nest building.
They are looking for food resources in trees and shrubs. Paper wasps are predators and feed on a variety of other insects that are present on bushes, shrubs, flowers and trees.
They may have built a nest on the structure.
Orion Pest Wasp Control Program
Most people are afraid of bees and usually try to avoid a confrontation with them. At Orion Pest, we believe the best way to avoid these confrontations at your home is to prevent them from building their nests! However, if you have a nest that requires immediate attention, please contact us today.
At Orion Pest Solutions, we have unique treatment and prevention programs for Wasps, Yellow Jackets, and Carpenter Bees. Following are the details of our Wasp prevention service.
Why are we smarter?
Our knowledge of wasp biology allows us to create cutting-edge treatments to successfully eliminate residential wasp problems. The Orion Pest methodology is based on scientific research, which is what sets us apart from the competition. While our competitors focus on trying to remove wasps, Orion offers a service that actually prevents wasps from nesting on your home, decks, swing sets, storage sheds, etc. Our residential wasp prevention service is offered as a one-time service and is also included with our Home Intensive or Home Traditional services.
How is Orion Pest methodology proven to prevent wasps?
By preventing nest building, the presence of Wasps will be greatly reduced. The treatment also deters Carpenter Bees from tunneling into wood and Yellow Jackets are also deterred from nesting in wall voids of the structure in treated areas. This is at no additional cost!
In the event that you find another pest control company offering wasp prevention services, we recommend that you ask them “how are you treating for wasps?”, “what areas of my home will you treat?", and “how long will wasps be prevented from nesting?” At OrionPest Solutions, we guarantee wasps will be 100% prevented and that you will be “wowed” by our service.
Smarter = Wasp Prevention
Why should I be concerned with Wasps?
Paper wasps are not an aggressive species by nature, but will sting if they are disturbed or their nest is threatened. Wasp stings are painful and in some cases can cause an allergic reaction.
When should Wasp Prevention Begin?
Generally, during the last two weeks of April in most years, and the earlier in the spring the better. Wasps begin building their nests in April; thus Orion's preventative programs initiated early in the year will discourage Wasps from building their nests in areas which have been treated. Programs which are initiated later in the season may also require reactive measures in order to control the Wasps which have already established their nests on the structure or within soffits and wall voids. Once the active nests are treated the prevention treatment will be made. We also perform two follow up service inspections for bees that may have made nests away from our treatment areas.
What are the areas of my home that are treated?
Areas to be treated include:
- First Story Soffits
- First Story Windows
- Behind Shutters (First & Second Story)
- Light Fixtures attached to structure
- Dryer Vents
- First Story Gutters
- Corners or Edges of Structure
- Meter Boxes
- Areas with historic activity
- Decks....and other areas specific to your home
Can I treat Wasps myself?
Using over the counter products to treat Wasps and bees can agitate them and potentially cause them to sting you multiple times. Also if the Wasps are nesting behind the side of a treated area, this may actually push the Wasps inside and they are likely to reappear elsewhere.
Is the treatment environmentally friendly?
There are many eco-friendly options available, additionally all products used by Orion Pest Solutions are EPA registered for pest control use. Our highly trained pest control professionals will follow all appropriate label requirements in an effort to keep pets and humans safe.
Termites
Termite Control and Monitoring
What is a Termite?
Eastern Subterranean Termites are a common wood destroying insect found in the northeastern part of the United States. Termites fulfill an important role in our ecological system by speeding up the natural process of deterioration and help turn the dead wood into new soil. Unfortunately, termites don't know the difference between a stump in your yard and the wood in your home. Eastern Subterranean Termites live in social colonies, typically found in the soil. While they are generally found foraging underground for fallen wood, or plant debris, they can also enter homes causing extensive damage if left untreated.
Why do I have them?
Termites are a common occurrence in nature, and are constantly in search of additional food sources. Worker termites travel underground looking for fallen trees, decaying wood, plant debris, and other cellulose materials to consume and bring back to the colony. It is not uncommon to find termites in mulch or a nearby wood pile around your home. Improper moisture control, leaf litter, and direct wood-to-soil contact are all prime conditions that can promote termite activity on your property - often times within close proximity to your home. While foraging, worker termites will enter cracks in the foundation of your home, ultimately leading them to the wood within the structure.
Eastern Subterranean termites are native to New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Eastern Subterranean termite symptoms can be seen in your home if: You see swarming termites in your home (this usually occurs in the spring)
You see dead termites. Termite swarms happen very quickly in the springtime.
Since termites eat wood from the inside, you may see Hollowed wood.
Mud tunnels. Termites build elaborate tunneling systems beneath the ground.
Structural weakness which includes a “soft feeling” floor or ceiling.
What is a Termite service?
Residential termite services in Nigeria can be either reactionary or preventative. Since termites often remain undetected, at Orion Pest, we recommend that you use our preventative service since termite infestations can be severe, and unfortunately costly.
At Orion Pest Solutions, we offer three types of service for termites:
1. Sentricon® Always Active
This service combines monitoring and treatment. Sentricon Always Active works through monitoring systems in the ground around your home; however these monitoring stations always contain a small amount of bait to kill any termite colonies that may find their way onto your property. Sentricon stations are monitored using a scanner which connects to a computer and provides accurate results in less time. The service consists of two inspections a year for at least a two year period to make sure that termites have not been active on your property.
2. Active Termite Management:
This service is Orion's answer to an active termite problem in your home. The service begins with an inspection to determine the extent of the termite infestation you are experiencing. A skilled Orion technician can answer your questions about the termite treatment process and create an individualized plan of attack for treating your home. The active treatment will be followed up with ourTermAware™ monitoring system to make sure that the termites don't come back.
3. TermAware™
This is a termite monitoring program that is designed to keep termites from initially infesting and damaging your home. After TermAware monitors are installed on your property, skilled technicians will inspect every monitor each spring, summer, and fall and leave you a written inspection report after each visit. In the winter, we will inspect the interior of your home for any signs that termites have made it past the sensors undetected. If we do find termite activity, we will respond immediately with an appropriate treatment. When this service is installed proactively, you will receive coverage for any future termite problems once we have ascertained that there is no pre-existing condition.
What is covered under a Termite service?
Clients who use Orion's Active Termite Management service will receive treatments at no extra cost if any termites should reappear, and they are eligible for our TermAware™ Certificate of Protection only six months after the initial treatment. This protection is valid as long as the TermAware monitoring program is in effect.
The TermAware Certificate of Protection is also available with proactive TermAware monitoring programs and will take effect as soon as we determine that there are no pre-existing termite issues on your property (generally a period of 4 consecutive warm-weather months with no activity). Homeowners who choose to use Sentricon have coverage for any future termite activity, which will be treated and resolved, but do not have the same damage protection as TermAware customers.
Why should I consider a Termite service?
Termites are an incredibly stressful and common problem for homeowners in Nigeria. Termites won't destroy your home over night, but they can cause serious damage if left untreated for long periods of time. Having a termite problem normally means spending large sums to treat the problem and repair your home, but proactive termite services can alleviate some of these worries. If you suspect you have termites, or have had them in the past, or you simply don't want to have to worry about them, you may want to begin one of our treatments.
Is this service unique in the pest industry?
While termite services in general are not unique to Orion Pest Solutions, no other company offers TermAware and the warranty that comes with it.
Spider
Orion Pests can control Spiders in your home!
What is a Spider?
Spiders are a type of arachnid that can be found almost anywhere on Earth, and there are many different varieties spiders that can be found within NJ and PA. All spiders have 8 legs and 2 body parts, but they can come in all different sizes and colors. On the whole they are beneficial, and mostly find their way into homes accidentally. While essentially all spiders are venomous, very few species are harmful to humans, or even capable of biting through the skin. Most spiders will not even try to bite, but if they do people usually react as if they were stung by a bee (some people end up having allergic reactions).
Why do I have them?
For the most part spiders are only in your home because they wandered in unintentionally. Of course, you are more likely to see them in your house if you live in a wooded area or have plant life around your foundation because spiders like to live in these environments. Also, any areas where there is moisture, like basements and gutters, will attract spiders. Essentially, if insects that spiders prey upon are attracted to the area, spiders will follow.
Why should I be concerned with Spiders?
Most spiders in the Nigeria are harmless to humans and are actually beneficial since they eat other small insects. However, many people who find spiders in their homes want the spiders removed and to also be controlled in the future.
How do I get rid of Spiders?
Since spiders are very common, the best way to reduce their presence is to remove their food source. An area that is not hospitable to insects will not be nearly so attractive to spiders. To deal with spiders inside, you can also vacuum with a crack and crevice attachment to remove spiders and their eggs as a quick reduction measure, though the bag should be removed and thrown out right after. Still, the most important measure to keep spiders away is to eliminate their prey insects as much as is possible.
What service options are available?
Orion Pests service for spiders includes knocking down visible webs and providing treatments in areas where there would likely be insect, and thus spider, activity. This will reduce the presence of the insects, taking away the spiders' food source and leading to a reduction in the number of spiders in your home.
Spider treatment to eliminate spiders from your home can be preformed as a One Time Service, but it is also covered under the Home Traditional and Home Intensive quarterly maintenance services.
How Can I Prevent Spiders?
While you are likely to continue to still an occasional spider, there are lots of things that you can do to make your home less inviting to them. Make sure to keep all vegetation, woodpiles, and clutter away from the foundation of your home because they are all ideal spider environments. Also avoid the use of landscaping materials such as riverbed rock as the rounded rocks create a damp cool environment that is favorable to the sorts of insects that spiders often eat. Switching to yellow (sodium vapor) lights can also reduce the number of insects attracted to your home. Lastly, you will want to keep your home as well sealed and free of moisture as possible. Accordingly, you will want to seal up gaps around windows and doors and any other entry points or cracks. Keeping your basement as dry as possible is also helpful.
How soon can you get here?
At Orion Pest Solutions, our goal is to provide fast, convenient service, with the peace of mind that you are in good hands. We understand that pest problems can be stressful and overwhelming, so we strive to have one of our representatives meet with you the same day or very next day.

There are many eco-friendly options available for spider control. In addition, all products used by Orion Pest Solutions are EPA registered for pest control use. Our highly trained pest control professionals will follow all appropriate label requirements in an effort to keep pets and humans safe.
Mosquito
Why should I be concerned about mosquitoes?
Annoying bites, the threat of disease transmission, and enjoying your property are three important reasons why you don’t want to share your property with mosquitoes this summer.
Until recently, getting bitten by mosquitoes was something that only happened as the sun set and the evening arrived. Over the last several years, this has all changed. Now mosquitoes are biting all day and into the night. Responsible for this dramatic change is the Asian Tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus.
Asian Tiger mosquitoes get their name from their aggressive biting habits and striped color pattern. Unlike our domestic mosquitoes that feed at dusk, Asian Tiger mosquitoes feed all day. Its aggressive biting behavior during the daytime hours can create unbearable conditions, making the time you spend outdoors unpleasant and prevent you from relaxing and enjoying your yard. In addition to being a fierce biter, the Asian Tiger mosquito is a serious disease vector in other parts of the world. At present, they have not been associated with disease transmission in this part of the country but mosquito biologists are carefully monitoring the situation and caution that this is likely to change.
Culex pipiens is another common mosquito in both Lagos and Port Harcourt and is the primary mosquito that transmits West Nile Virus and St. Louis Encephalitis (SLE). They are weak fliers, are active mostly at night, and feed primarily on birds higher up in the trees. While Culex pipiens can bite you in your backyards, the likelihood is much less than the Asian Tiger mosquito.
Properties in coastal areas where saltwater marshes are present have another mosquito to contend with, the Eastern Saltmarsh mosquito, Aedes solicitans, This mosquito is known to transmit Eastern Equine Encephalitis and can be an aggressive biter, feeding mostly at night. Many other mosquitoes are common in this part of the country, but these three are considered among the most important and can change your summer fun into a summer of swatting. The goal of the Orion Pest mosquito program is to win back your yard for you and your family, providing you as close to a bite free environment as possible
Centipedes
What is a Centipede?
Centipedes in the Nigeria are generally between 2-3 inches long and are yellowish to dark brown in color, often with dark markings. They have segmented bodies with one pair of legs per segment and are very quick - they will occasionally stop suddenly before darting off again. Centipedes like to live in moist environments like damp basements, and they are mostly active at night.
Why do I have them?
Centipedes like moist environments and may enter structures to seek moisture. They also eat insects and spiders, so if there is an infestation of another pest, centipedes may follow.
Why should I be concerned with Centipedes?
Centipedes are capable of biting humans, but it is not common for them to do so. Also, their bite is generally no worse than a bee sting. If you are seeing them in great numbers it may be an indication of another type of pest problem since centipedes eat insects and spiders.
How do I get rid of Centipedes?
Centipedes can be controlled by sealing entry points like cracks in the foundation, reducing moisture within the home, and with chemical applications on the exterior of the structure and in cracks and crevices within the home.
What service options are available?
Orion Pest′s centipede service is made up of an exterior treatment and additional pesticide applications indoors where appropriate. Centipedes are can be treated as a one-time service, and they are also covered under the Home Intensive quarterly maintenance plan.
How can I prevent Centipedes in the future?
You may reduce the number of centipedes in your home by making sure that there is as little moisture around your home as possible since it creates a good environment for centipedes. Also, make sure that as many that you seal as many cracks and crevices on the exterior of you home as you can and fill gaps around doors and basement windows.
How soon can you get here?
At Orion Pest Solutions, our goal is to provide fast, convenient service, with the peace of mind that you are in good hands. We understand that pest problems can be stressful and overwhelming, so we strive to have one of our representatives meet with you the same day or very next day.
Carpenter Ants
Protect your home with Orion Carpenter Ant Service
What are Carpenter Ants?
Carpenter Ants are a real concern for many homeowners in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They can cause damage to the wood that makes up your home and often will come back to the structure year after year. Carpenter ant problems can be difficult to control the first time, so you certainly do not want them to re-infest! Since Carpenter Ants are social insects, their colonies are organized into complex societies with a division of labor among the different castes. The Carpenter Ant plays an important role in the environment by acting as major decomposers of dead or fallen trees within the forest. However, since they are very efficient destroyers of wood, they can become a very serious economic pest when they enter man-made structures.
Typical signs of carpenter ant infestations may include:
- Carpenter Ant adults usually appear as large black ants. However, some species contain combinations of black, red or orange occurring on various parts of the body.
- Carpenter Ants prefer to attack wood which has been moistened and is damp or weakened by decay. The difference between carpenter ants and termites is that termites eat the wood while carpenter ants make nests within the structure.
- Carpenter Ant nests can be located in attics, underneath floor coverings, in ceilings, and cracks in walls.
- Carpenter Ants are most active during the night when they forage for food
- Carpenter Ants may bite in defense when their nest is disturbed
Currently have an active Carpenter Ant infestation?
For residents with an active Carpenter Ant infestation at home, the Orion Carpenter Ant SystemTM focuses on eliminating active ant colonies. Detailed inspections are performed to locate Carpenter Ant trails and with pinpoint accuracy, our pest management professionals deliver the system. The ants feed on the bait, taking it back to the colony where it is fed to other ants, thus destroying the colony. The system includes identifying carpenter ant trails, utilizing baits and traditional materials as necessary. The program is available only through Orion Pest Solutions.
Can I treat Carpenter Ants myself?
Over the counter products for Carpenter Ant control are usually not successful. Generally, when using these products, you run the risk of damaging your property and they are rarely successful in eliminating the entire ant colony. These products are also not customized to treat a particular ant species since they are generic and are used for all types of ants.
What is covered under the Orion Carpenter Ant System Service?
When you purchase either of the two available Orion Carpenter Ant Renewal options, any re-infestations you may have are solved at no extra cost to you since we will re-implement the Orion Carpenter Ant System.
Why should I consider the Carpenter Ant System Service?
Carpenter ants can become a serious economic pest when they infest your home since they are very efficient at destroying wood. While they do not eat wood, they will keep chewing through it to expand the size of their nests as the size of the colony increases.
Is this service unique in the pest industry?
Carpenter ant services are by no means unique to Orion Pest Solutions. Prevention backed by the highly effective Orion Carpenter Ant System (our approach to the problem) can only be found at Orion.
What makes Orion′s Carpenter Ant System Service different?
Our preventative treatments employ a broad spectrum applications of pesticides and you have the specialized Orion Carpenter Ant System as a backup. This system is special because it does not rely on traditional pest control methods, instead it places baits where the ants are sure to encounter them and bring them back to their nests. By tracking the trails that the ants use, Orion′s technicians can get the very best results and will have a far better chance of eliminating colonies than if they simply used traditional pesticides. We also keep up with all of the latest research and developments in the industry so that the Orion Carpenter Ant System is providing you with the most effective products on the market.
How is the Carpenter Ant System Service convenient?
You don′t even need to be home while the treatment is performed for any of Orion′s preventative treatments, nor do you have to be home for the Orion Carpenter Ant System treatment, should you need it. In fact, there are no preparations at all for the Orion Carpenter Ant System or the preventative renewal. This is a stark contrast from other companies’ services which require a great deal of preparation from you before they can be performed.
What research backs the Carpenter Ant Service?
All of Orion′s carpenter ant treatments are developed based on understanding the biology and behavior of the ants. Our knowledge of how best to prevent carpenter ant infestations and eradicate the ones that are already established in your home comes from research conducted by our staff entomologists. Our entomology team also is at the forefront of the industry when it comes to testing and researching new products. Bed Bugs
At Orion Pests, we provide bed bug elimination services to residential and commercial market segments.
Orion Pest Control is the recognized national leader on the subject of bed bugs and for the treatment of bed bugs. Orion regularly holds weekly bed bug classes and boot camps for other pest management companies, while also developing cutting-edge products for the treatment and prevention of bed bugs.
Why should I be concerned with Bed Bugs?
Bed Bugs, unlike other insects that feed on blood, have never been proven to transmit disease to humans. However, bed bugs bites can cause itchy red welts in some people and are often confused with poison ivy or an allergic reaction of some kind. Many people also find the presence of bed bugs distressing and may have trouble sleeping. Some people even misuse pesticides and attempt other home remedies trying to rid their homes of bed bugs, which can be dangerous since they are also ineffective.
What do bed bugs look like?
Adults are small, brownish insects, just under a ¼” long and are relatively flat. They are nearly as wide as they are long, and oval in shape. Immature bed bugs (nymphs) resemble the adults but are much smaller and lighter in color. Newly hatched nymphs are translucent and are no bigger than a pinhead (1 mm).
How will I know if I have bed bugs?
The most reliable way to confirm you have bed bugs is to contact Cooper Pest Solutions to identify a sample collected from your home. However, there are key warning signs that you may have an infestation:
- Going to bed and waking with bites, welts or rashes. Bite marks may appear in a rows and clusters.
- Dark spotting or blood droplets on mattresses or bedding. These are waste products bed bugs excrete while digesting a blood-meal.
- Visible observation of eggs, molted insect skin, or the insect. The failure to locate an insect does not indicate they are not present. Adult bed bugs are difficult to locate, and immature bed bugs can be difficult to see due to their size.
- If I think I have an infestation, what should I do?
Upon discovering an infestation, immediately contact Cooper Pest Control to evaluate your problem. You should AVOID discarding bedding and mattresses as this can spread the infestation throughout the house and new furniture can quickly become infested. Also, AVOID attempting to resolve the issue yourself as improper treatment could spread the problem throughout and increase costs to eliminate the problem.
How does Cooper eliminate bed bug infestations?
Bed Bugs are incredibly difficult to get rid of, and it is almost impossible to accomplish without the help of a professional. Since Bed Bugs are capable of going months at a time without eating, it can be hard to tell if you have truly eliminated the problem without confirmation from an expert. Bed Bugs can be killed when they are exposed to very high temperatures (roughly 135 °F), by structural fumigation, and by some pesticides. Leaving your home or sleeping somewhere other than your bed will not get rid of bed bugs and often will cause them to spread to new areas.
Orion Pest Solutions is equipped to carry out every step of the bed bug elimination process from proactive measures to treating with chemicals, steam, and heat. Orion′s highly skilled representatives and technicians will inspect your home for signs of a bed bug infestation and determine the severity of the infestation. Treatment will be carried out according to the needs of your particular situation. Unlike other companies, Orion′s treatments do not require prep on your part.

How can I prevent Bed Bugs in the future?
The two best ways to keep from introducing bed bugs into your home are avoiding the purchase of second-hand furniture and bedding and avoiding travel. Of course, it is not always possible to avoid traveling, but there are precautions you can take when you do that will reduce your risk of bringing bed bugs home, including things such as making sure that you put all of you clothing through the dryer before re-introducing it to your home after travel.
